Micro Mart Pressit Review

The following is text taken from Micromart.co.uk reviewing our Pressit Platinum CD/DVD labelling kit.

"Pressit Platinum CD/DVD Labelling kit

Price: £22.98
Manufacturer: Pressit
Website: http://www.micromart.co.uk/Exit/Default.asp?ExternalURL=http://www.medeainternational.com/pressit/

This package is the Rolls Royce of the Pressit label range, and contains a special 'Platinum' applicator. Well, it's technically more silver plastic than precious metal - but you get the idea.

This is a radically different concept from any of the other designs, and provides a compact applicator that can handle multiple disc/label types. On one side is the standard CD/DVD applicator - which is designed to use 'full face' labels - i.e. ones you can't easily see the centre of the disc through. Flip it over and the other side can handle 'mini' three inch media and business card sized discs. In fact the only type it can't handle are normal CD/DVD labels which aren't full face. I can live without these, personally.

As well as the funky applicator it also claims to have 120 labels in the pack, which gives you a sample of all the Pressit media. This includes 34 CD labels, six for mini CDs, eight for eBusiness cards, four CD case inserts, a CD Wallet set and a DVD Case insert. But hang on! That doesn't add up to 120 does it? Even if you include the rectangular labels that you get alongside the CD labels this still only makes 92, so I think Pressit got a little confused somewhere on along the line. However you work it out, I think '120' is overselling the point in the same way Neato did.

Included with the hardware and paper media is some printing software, Expressit SE 2.1 and a range of templates for various applications. Expressit SE 2.1 is a very well made and designed application, which makes creating and printing labels remarkably easy. It includes an image library to get you started in assembling your labels. While it's effective, it did seem to have a number of obvious features missing like image crop and % scaling of images. If it did these things then it would be superb. Because of these limitations you need to do more work with you images before bringing them into the application, but when you do the results are great given a decent printer. The more I used Expressit the more I liked it.

The cost of this solution might be the most of those on test here, but a little research through the Micro Mart suppliers managed to net me this baby for less than £11 - which is a bargain. Good software, a reasonable amount of labels and a decent applicator - well done Pressit!
